At the CFA Executive Board Meeting on February 4, 2012, the board approved breed councils to opt out of allowing individual cats to be recorded for breeding purposes only based on certified pedigrees. The amended language would read as follows:

RECORDED CATS: Cats may be individually recorded for breeding purposes only. The requirements for recording are identical to those for individual registratio via pedigreed except that one less generation of ancestry is required. Recorded cats may not be shown at CFA shows. (Proposed) The following breeds do not allow a cat to be individually recorded for breeding purposes only: (this is where any breed that opts out for recorded cats would be listed).

In order for a breed to opt out, there must be a majority vote of the Breed Council, followed by adoption by the Board. The board has proposed a special "off cycle" poll on this issue.

After discussion on the Siamese Exhibitors list, it was decided that the Siamese Breed Council will wait and put this item on our regular Fall ballot in order to allow more time for discussion on the implications and to ensure that people have renewed their memberships so that we can capture a full response.

Iams is sponsoring the printing of new breed brochures and the breed council secretaries were asked to select photos for their breeds. The following pictures were selected. Although we we had hoped to be able to expand the brochures to include four or five photos (the old brochures had two) we ended up being limited to three photos.

The final decision was made based on feedback from breed council members and on which photos worked together and best represented our breed. It was not an easy decision.
